Just got back from seeing “Plague Doctors Cure All – Be Healed Tour” at Newnham Club. Brilliant gig! Superb jazz-fusion, much funkier than I was expecting. Sort of like Gong with hints of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, very early Level 42 and even a slight pinch of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and yet somehow like none of the above! Stellar musicianship and stellar organising by Owen Adams and the rest of the Foist crew.
The place was rammed too: proof that there’s a lots of people who want to hear original, experimental, non-mainstream bands as opposed to the usual cover/tribute band fodder (…)
